POSITION SUMMARY 

The Assistant Operations Manager/Field Supervisor will uphold the core values and overall mission of protecting our customers’ people, business, and time. This position will have a passion for excellence, safety, and compliant operations. The Field Supervisor will also support safety initiatives that protect employees, customers, and assets while also supervising and managing safe work environments. This role is instrumental in achieving success through team building, employee engagement, recruiting strategies, and promoting ongoing relationships with the team and clients. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Support the Operations Manager in managing a staff of 40 or more employees 
  • Manage operational functions to perform daily flagging and AFAD projects throughout Utah
  • Remain current on procedures and processes followed by flagging personnel and AFADs to better understand customer needs
  • Manage phone and email volume received from customers and the operations team
  • Maintain detailed records/notes from all forms of communications to ensure safe record-keeping
  • Direct supervision for 10-15- two-three person crews
  • Maintain Office/Field Responsibilities; 20% in Office and 80% in Field
  • Ensure that safety, quality, training, employee engagement, and retention are a prime focus of the business
  • Protect the company’s employees, customers, and assets against losses, injuries, and accidents through enforcement of safe work practices
  • Ensure safety compliance with state-specific guidelines and other regulatory agencies as it relates to the office 
  • Collaborate with project planning and implementation of safe work environments and traffic patterns in conjunction with business partners 
  • Develop relationships with internal and external customers to achieve goals and new business opportunities 
  • Perform field and vehicle inspections, attend pre-bid meetings, meet with clients and work in the field with the team as needed
  • Ensure customer service issues are addressed promptly and efficiently while providing the highest level of customer service
  • Assist in preparing daily schedules, including validations
  • Monitor daily employee issues including payroll, timekeeping, benefits, time off requests, customer issues, and training requirements
  • Coach, develop and counsel employees on all policies and procedures in the field and office
  • Facilitate teambuilding efforts and regular communications with team members 
  • Engage and support the training of new and current employees to reduce turnover, promote efficiency and reduce labor costs 
  • Obtain ATSSA and state-specific certifications 
  • Attain personal/team qualitative and quantitative metrics
  • Become a subject matter expert in work zone setup/design and professional flagging
  • Other duties as assigned 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION 

  • High School Diploma or GED completion 
  • 2 or 4-year degree in a business-related field is a plus but not required
  • 1-2 years of supervisor experience and building teams with 20+ individuals
  • Must be able to and enjoy connecting with field-level customers and contacts
  • Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills 
  • Take the initiative to build work relationships  
  • Contributes to the engagement and ongoing development of TSR/AWP employees 
  • Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office products and customer relationship management systems 
  • Must adhere to and promote safe workplace practices 
  • Valid Driver’s License void of suspension or revocation 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

The employee must be able to successfully handle the physical demands of this position, which include the following: 

  • Hours of operation may vary based on staffing needs and workload 
  • Typical workweek 40 + hours 
  • Majority of time will be in the field
  • The position may work in outside conditions that include inclement weather, not limited to heat, cold, humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt 
  • Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving vehicles, and occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites 
  • Noise levels in the work environment and job sites can be loud  
  • Position may lift or carry objects up to 50 pounds  
  • If necessary, in the field, stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; employee lifts pushes, pulls, or carries objects
