AWP Uses Tablet Technology to Improve Customer Experience and Internal Processes

Technology & Innovations, January 1, 2014

At the beginning of 2013, AWP began rolling out the use of tablets to our field operations and Safety Department. Throughout the year, tablets have been distributed to AWP facilities nationwide. Now, as of January, 2014, every AWP Safety Supervisor and Trainer is equipped with a tablet and fully trained to use it. AWP’s Safety Department uses the tablets to conduct work zone inspections, vehicle inspections, incident investigations, and to complete other safety-related reports. Tablet technology allows AWP’s Safety Department to instantly collect digital safety records completed by our field operations, including our daily Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports, which improves efficiency in responses to safety concerns. The technology allows for more detailed inspections, immediate reporting, and more complete safety data.

AWP’s field teams are also now thoroughly trained on the proper use of the technology and have incorporated the tablets into the applicable aspects AWP’s Training Program. Tablet technology is also improving AWP’s overall process efficiency, and our relationship with our customers. Currently, AWP facilities in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee are using tablet technology for customer billing and pre-trip and post-trip inspections, in addition to their safety functions. Every work crew in these facilities has a tablet and is fully trained to use it to better serve our customers, and improve daily safety routines. By spring 2014, the use of tablet technology will be fully implemented company-wide.
