For Infrastructure Professionals, Safety is Common Ground

Team AWP, May 13, 2019

AWP is proud to support Infrastructure Week 2019, a national week of education, advocacy, and idea-sharing with the common goal that we #BuildForTomorrow.

Like the public and private organizations involved in Infrastructure Week programming, the infrastructure industry itself is dynamic and diverse.

From public and private organizations like the US Chamber of Commerce and American Society of Civil Engineers, from small companies to international leaders like AECOM and Siemens, we all strive to improve infrastructure and the safety of those who work in the industry, every day.

We work together, because our work overlaps – even if indirectly. For example, when AECOM served as construction manager for Atlanta’s Mercedes Benz Stadium, we didn’t know that less than two years after it opened, our events team would provide primary traffic control setup for Super Bowl LIII, hosted at the stadium. Our being able to create safe pedestrian and vehicular routes for the Super Bowl was made easier because AECOM and its partners were conscientious and thoughtful about every design element, from ingress and egress to lighting and signage. No, we didn’t work “together,” but we share common ground.

Our commitment to safety

Generally, our work focuses on road construction projects – arguably the front line of infrastructure – but we also understand how critical infrastructure is in our work with Public Utilities, railway service and maintenance projects, and even in events services. Infrastructure literally provides the framework for our society, but at the same time, it is easy to overlook and ignore that framework in our busy lives.

We are delighted to take even a small role in Infrastructure Week, and are proud to support those who work tirelessly, all year long, to make that framework the best it can be.  Thank you to AWP’s people, partners, and customers. You are doing important work!
