AWP Traffic Control at Florida Marathon

ANOTHER BIG YEAR FOR EVENT SERVICES

AWP events teams will be working regional and national events for a wide variety of professional, collegiate and amateur sports events as well as parades, tourism programs, music festivals and other events again in 2020.

TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT UNDERWAY FOR 2020 EVENTS

While it’s still early in the year, AWP teams have already assisted with some major events in 2020.

We were proud to work with organizers of the 41st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade in Savannah, Georgia. To maintain the safety of participants and observers, traffic had to be rerouted in the city’s busy downtown from early morning through mid-afternoon – and then, returned to normal traffic patterns before the evening commute.

The AWP events team also handled traffic control and routing for the Publix Florida Marathon & 1/2 Marathon. Held in Melbourne, Florida, this event takes runners along the scenic Indian River and has been called “one of America’s top 10 bucket list waterfront races” by Runner’s WorldTM Magazine.

AWP Event Services Manager Todd Crider says he especially enjoys the marathons and other running events, citing the Army Ten-Miler in Washington, D.C., as one of his favorite events all year.

In 2019, Crider and the AWP team were thrilled to be part of the first-ever Around the Crown 10K in Charlotte. The AWP team also handled traffic control for the inaugural Chuck Norris 5K in College Station, Texas, where a Guinness World Record was on the line.

Parades and races are just two of the many types of events that keep AWP crews busy all year. And of course, a tremendous amount of work is “behind the scenes” planning and coordinating.

As Crider points out, even the simplest assignment of route planning, set up and removal requires coordination with local authorities, the scheduling of highly trained personnel, and the assurance that all of the proper signage and equipment is in place for the event – and then promptly removed after its culmination.

From parades and music festivals to amateur, college and professional sporting events, you can find AWP teams on the job, handling temporary traffic control plans (TTCPs) as well as pedestrian and traffic safety. We’ll continue to share their whereabouts throughout the coming year.

“We have worked with this crew now for a few years and when I am planning the race, I always know I can depend on them to get the job done.” – Race Series Director, East Shore YMCA
