June is National Safety Month, so it’s a good time to spread the message of safety and to address how new technology can improve safety. For more than 25 years, safety has (literally) been our message and our business.
Safety, of course, is not a product that can be ordered, shipped and delivered. Safety is a mindset, a commitment to developing and perfecting practices and habits that becomes a way of doing business. And we wouldn’t run our company any other way.
What’s the Real ROI on Safety?
We all know that accidents and injuries are costly in too many ways. The National Safety Council calculated that in 2016, workplace injuries and deaths cost the US economy $151.1 billion. In 2018, for the third straight year, there were more than 40,000 vehicular deaths in the US.
In our primary role of providing temporary traffic management services, we don’t design roads or highways. But we do protect the drivers (and workers) in work zones as construction crews improve our infrastructure. You’ve probably heard about the butterfly effect – that even small actions can have a great and long-lasting impact. We think the same theory applies to our culture of safety – that the habits, large and small, followed by our people and our partners, can make a positive impact throughout our nation.
